SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic knocked off No. 8 Columbus State 9-0 in Peach Belt Conference action on Friday afternoon at Bacon Park.

The Pirates improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the Peach Belt, knocking off their consecutive top-10 opponent since suffering their first loss of 2013. Columbus State fell to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the league with the setback.

Armstrong swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The top-ranked doubles duo of Georgi Rumenov and Dan Regan downed Olivier Simonet and Michael Trebuhov 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 6-ranked duo of Sven Lalicand Pedro Scocuglia beat Gordan Divljak and Quentin Rayniere 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Matus Mydla and Jaan Kononov completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win against Adi Malicbegovic and Danilo Sardelli at No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates then swept all six singles matches to clinch the match. No. 5-ranked Mydla swept past Simonet 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while No. 1-ranked Rumenov beat Divljak 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

No. 13-ranked Regan downed Rayniere 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles while No. 24-ranked Lalic bested Marco Almorin 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. No. 25 Scocuglia beat Sardelli 6-4, 6-1 at  No. 5 singles. Pablo Gor defeated Malicbegovic in a third-set 10-point tiebreak 6-3, 6-7 (6), (10-7).
