GREENWOOD, S.C. -- The top-ranked and defending national champion Armstrong Atlantic claimed the 2013 Peach Belt Conference regular-season crown with an 8-1 win against No. 7 Lander on Monday at the Joe Cabri Tennis Courts.

The Pirates (19-1, 10-0 PBC) captured their fourth consecutive PBC regular-season crown and eighth out of the past nine seasons with the win against the Bearcats (13-2, 9-1 PBC), who finished runner-up in the league standings.

Armstrong took two of three doubles wins to head into singles play with a 2-1 lead. The top-ranked doubles duo of Dan Regan and Georgi Rumenov defeated the No. 13 duo of August Iwdal and Adam Jonsson 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Matus Mydla and Jaan Kononov notched an 8-5 win versus Samuel Poutignat and Oscar Axelsson at No. 3 doubles. Lander's point came at No. 2 doubles as Paul-Henri Arrigoni and Vincent Verpeaux outlasted No. 6 Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia 9-8 (12-10).

The Pirates then notched consecutive-set wins in all six singles matches to clinch the title. No. 5 Mydla beat No. 17 Arrigoni 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while top-ranked Rumenov claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win versus Verpeaux at No. 2 singles. No. 13 Regan blanked Poutignat 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

No. 24 Lalic bested Axelsson 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, while No. 25 Scocuglia upended Jonsson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Pablo Gor completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 win versus Iwdal at No. 6 singles.
