Farmingdale State wins Skyline title by downing Mount Saint Mary 5-1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- Top-seeded Farmingdale State took a 5-1 victory against second-seed Mount Saint Mary (14-6) to capture its third consecutive Skyline Conference Championship on Saturday. With the win, the Rams received the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament.
After doubles play, Farmingdale State led 3-0. The doubles tandem of sophomore Justin Vijungco and senior Ryan Musalo took an 8-3 victory against the Knights' top team of junior Greg Jacob and sophomore Nate Dimmie.
At second doubles, senior Alex Bessarabov and junior Steven Ferrantello posted an 8-4 win against junior Stat Willand and freshman Mike Balokoz.
In the third spot, junior Bradley Smith and junior Judd Bahoui took the 8-6 victory against sophomore Connor Merryman and senior Bryan Pujol.
In singles play, Alex Bessarabov made it 4-0 Rams with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Stat Willand at third singles. Mount Saint Mary won at fourth singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
The match-winning point was recorded by Ryan Musalo, who was named the Skyline Tournament MVP, with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Nate Dimmie at second singles.
