POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Vassar won two of three doubles matches and then captured three of the first four singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory against Skidmore in the championship match of the Liberty League tournament on Monday at Walker Field House.

Skidmore grabbed the opening point of the match with Miles Ransom and Gabe Steerman earning an 8-5 win at third doubles. Vassar pulled even when Dan Freeman and Nick Jasso countered with an 8-5 win at second doubles. The Brewers won a pivotal point at first doubles as Andrew Guzick and Dan Cooper rallied for an 8-5 victory after trailing 4-3.

The singles matches quickly began to roll Vassar's way. Cooper pulled the Brewers a point closer with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at fourth singles. Teammate Christian Phelps followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at fifth singles. Soon after Skidmore picked up a win at second singles by Ransom, Guzick clinched the championship with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at first singles.

NCAA championship selections will be announced on Monday, May 6. The Liberty League champion does not currently receive an NCAA automatic bid (it will beginning in 2014), so Vassar and Skidmore will have to wait for the NCAA Division III selection committee to determine whether they will be selected for at-large selections.
