GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Lander swept all three doubles matches Thursday afternoon, but fell in five of six singles in a 5-4 loss to Georgia Gwinnett in a non-conference match at The Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
Georgia Gwinnett, the No. 5-ranked team in the NAIA, improves to 6-0, while Lander moves to 3-2.
In singles, No. 1 Bruno Tiberti (GG) defeated Vincent Verpeaux 6-4, 6-2; No. 2 Mark Verryth (GG) defeated Ristomatti Lanne 6-2, 6-1; No. 3 Matias Hatem (GG) defeated Samuel Poutignat 6-4, 6-1; No. 4 Erik Moberg (GG) defeated Adam Jonsson 6-2, 6-3; No. 5 Marc Hofer (Lander) defeated Connor Clements 7-6, 2-6, 6-4; and No. 6 Tony Kostadinov (GG) defeated Diego Zegarra 7-6, 7-6.
In doubles, No. 1 Jonsson/Oscar Axelsson (Lander) defeated Mark Verryth/Kostadinov 8-3; No. 2 Paulo Fernandes/Vincent Verpeaux (Lander) defeated Bruno Tiberti/Connor Clements (GG) 8-5; and No. 3 Samuel Poutignat/Marc Hofer (Lander) defeated Matias Hatem/Luke Morland (GG) 8-3.
