BOCA RATON, Fla. -- West Florida defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights 5-4 on the road Monday afternoon. West Florida (11-0, 4-0 GSC) remains undefeated on the year after earning their second consecutive win against a top-10 ranked Sunshine State Conference opponent.
“This was a great win for us today,” head coach Derrick Racine said. “We were down after doubles play but our team dug deep and came out fighting in singles to get the win.”
No. 1-ranked Bruno Savi got a huge win at No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win against No. 17 Vlad Cirla. No. 16 Kenny Brasil got a big comeback win at No. 4 singles by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
“Bruno came up big for us today,” Racine said. “He was down 5-2 in the first set and came back to win 7-5, and then took the second set 6-3. Kenny Brasil also fought back to win after loosing the first set to clinch the match 6-3 in the third.”
No. 24 Alex Peyrot won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4 while fellow French countryman Tony Rajaobelina also won in singles play, earning a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Savi and Rajaobelina got the lone win in doubles play for UWF with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
