CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Trinity (Texas) came back to defeat No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer 5-4 in a dual match on Monday.
Trinity (11-5) has now won two of three matches on its California trip, which finishes Tuesday afternoon.
Down 1-2 after after doubles, and 2-3 in singles, the Tigers clinched the match on the No. 2 line as Greg Haugen won 6-3, 7-6 (3). Haugen improved to 10-4 this season with the victory.
In the doubles competition, the No. 3 match went to Clayton Niess and Charlie Curtis by an 8-6 score. Paxton Deuel and Nico Moreno were edged in a tiebreaker 8-9 (1) in No. 1 doubles, while Haugen and Jordan Mayer lost 8-9 (4) at No. 2.
Mayer evened the match at 2-2 by winning No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-2, improving his season record to 13-1. Aaron Skinner lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles as Pomona-Pitzer once again took the lead. Deuel won the first-set tiebreaker 7-6 (3), and took the second set 6-1 at No. 1 singles, as the match was deadlocked once again.
Moreno also won the opening set 7-6 (4), and the second stanza 6-4 at No. 4 singles. After the clincher by Haugen, Connor Dunn came up short 6-4, 6-7 (5), 3-6 in the No. 6 matchup
