No. 22 Clemson edges NC State 4-3

RALEIGH, N. C. -- Alejandro Augusto defeated Thomas Weigel at No. 3 singles in what proved to be the clinching match as No. 22 Clemson defeated No. 43 NC State in an Atlantic Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Clemson improves to 17-3 overall, and 4-1 in the ACC. NC State falls to 11-7 overall and 0-5 in league play. 

At No. 1 singles, No. 82-ranked Hunter Harrington of Clemson upset No. 47-ranked Austin Powell in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.  

The doubles team of Harrington and Dominique Maden defeated Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster of NC State 8-7 in clinching the doubles point for the Tigers. Harrington and Maden are ranked 25th nationally as a doubles team.

Oklahoma State won the national title on its home course last season, defeating Alabama in the finals at Karsten Creek. Led by U.S. Amateur champion Viktor Hovland and the Cowboys have won six tournaments this season, taking the Big 12 title in their previous start.
