No. 25 West Alabama comes back in singles to get by Valdosta St.

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- West Alabama extended its winning streak to 16 matches by defeating No. 13 Valdosta State 5-4 in a battle of NCAA Division II tennis powers Saturday at the Vaughn Tennis Complex.

The victory improves the Tigers to 20-1 overall and 5-1 in Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State dropped to 10-4 and 4-2.

Valdosta State won all three doubles matches before West Alabama roared back to win five of six in singles to take the match.

Nestor Vargas, ranked 18th in the nation in singles play, got UWA off on the right foot by winning at No. 1 6-1, 6-2 against Francisco Yim Kim. Anton Ivanov, Adam Drysdale, Kike Ruiz and Manuel Grossmann also won in singles for the Tigers.
