Lander clinches share of PBC title

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Lander won at least a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship Sunday when the Bearcats defeated No. 21 Georgia College 8-1 at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

Lander finishes the regular season 15-3 overall and 9-1 in the PBC, while Georgia College drops to 13-6, 6-4. The PBC tournament will be held this Thursday through Sunday in Florence, S.C.

Armstrong Atlantic and Columbus State also have 9-1 conference records.

In singles, No. 1 Vincent Verpeaux (L) def. Yannick Hass (GC) 7-5, 6-1; No. 2 Marc Hofer (L) def. Alex Schubert (GC) 6-2, 6-0; No. 3 Anton Waern (GC) def. Adam Jonsson (L) 7-5, 6-4; No. 4 Ristomatti Lanne (L) def. Mattia Campus (GC) 6-2, 6-3; No. 5 Niklas Terhorst (L) def. Taylor Powell (GC) 6-3, 6-2; and No. 6 Diego Zegarra (L) def. Kyle Kinsler (GC) 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, No. 1 Oscar Axelsson/Adam Jonsson (L) def. No. 16 Yannick Hass/Alex Schubert (GC) 8-2; No. 2 Vincent Verpeaux/Paulo Fernandes (L) def. Taylor Powell/Anton Waern (GC) 8-5; and No. 3 Niklas Terhorst/Samuel Poutignat (L) def. Kyle Kinsler/Mattia Campus (GC) 8-4.
