PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Johnson & Wales (R.I.) notched its eighth consecutive victory with a 5-4 win against Massachusetts-Boston in a non-conference contest at LaSalle Academy on Monday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales sophomore Jorge Mancebo and freshman Grzegorz Wala posted an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles and the Wildcats extended their lead to 2-1 after doubles action after an 8-5 win at the second doubles flight by sophomore Jason Chavenson and junior Jake McGuire.
Wala also recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles while Mancebo had a near perfect 6-0, 6-1 win at the fourth singles spot. JWU clinched the match victory at No. 5 singles as sophomore Adam Beady tallied 6-0, 6-2 victory for the Wildcats.
With the win Johnson & Wales wraps up the regular season with an 11-1 record while UMass Boston falls to 6-8 on the year. The Wildcats are the top seed for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship and will host second-seeded Suffolk in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Wednesday.
