ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates strolled past the 11th-ranked Tritons of UC San Diego in the quarter-finals of the 2005 NCAA Division II National Tennis Tournament at Sanlando Park on Thursday.

The Pirates swept the doubles in convincing fashion. The third-flight team of Dziyana Nazaruk and Johanna Dahlback shutout UCSD's Jasmin Dao and Marissa Hilker 8-0. At number two, The Pirates' eighth-ranked team of Manuela Emmrich and Caroline Grage knocked out Kristin Bronowicki and Katie McKee 8-2. The number one flight was a matchup of two of the top teams in Division II, with the fourth-ranked team of Luisa Cowper and Laura Peaty taking a tough 8-6 win over the 17th-ranked pair of Marsha Malinow and Tara Siddiqui.

Singles play was tighter than apparent, with the Tritons taking four first sets. But Cowper at number one and Grage at number five both claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins over Malinow and McKee respectively.

The Pirates advance to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of the Lynn/Valdosta State match at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 13.
