ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No.4-ranked Lynn women's tennis team defeated No. 12 Abilene Christian 5-3, Wednesday afternoon in the Round of 16 at the Women's Tennis 2010 National Championships from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

Playing in one of the tightest matches of the day, the Fighting Knights overcame a 2-1 match deficit to claim victory and advance into Thursday's Quarterfinals.

After the No.3 Lynn duo of Eleonora Iannozzi and Christine Johnson secured the first doubles match, 8-3, the Wildcats battled back to take a 2-1 lead moving into singles play. Leading the charge for Abilene was the No. 1 pair of Jaclyn Walker and Julia Morgan who outlasted the Lynn team of 9-7. The Wildcats also received outstanding efforts from Hanna Kelly and Cassie Carver at the No. 3 spot, as they also prevailed in a back-and-forth contest, 8-6.

In singles action, Lynn's Iannazzi took down Carver in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1 to even the match at two apiece. Jessica Yanoff pushed the Fighting Knights out in front with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, while Magdelena Ekert won in straight-sets 6-2, 6-3 at the No.2 position. Abilene's Friend kept Wildcat hope alive with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, but Tassie Salame solidified the match by enduring a three-set thriller over Kelly, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.

With the match secured, the remaining match went unfinished.

Lynn advances to the Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 13 to take on the winner of Slippery Rock and St. Cloud State. The match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
