FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The #10 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team advanced to the third round of the 2010 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 win over Drew University on Saturday, May 15 at University of Mary Washington. The Tartans improve to 14-7 and will play for a regional championship for the fifth time in six years.

The team swept doubles action while only dropping three games. Junior Jennifer Chui (Saratoga, Calif./Monta Vista) and sophomore Cze-Ja Tam (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) closed out Sophia-ye Chen and Cristine Conde 8-0 at No. 3 while sophomore Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) and freshman Alex Tapak (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) won 8-1 at No. 2. The No. 1 ranked doubles team in the Atlantic South, junior Ashley Herrick (Amherst, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and sophomore Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), won 8-2 in the No. 1 slot.

Tam and Chui earned the final two points for the Tartans winning 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively, at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

The Tartans move on to face #16 The College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at Mary Washington.
