ATHENS, Ga. ----- The second-seeded University of North Carolina Tar Heels punched their ticket to the 2010 NCAA Women's Tennis quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory over No. 15 Florida State in Round of 16 action Thursday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Tar Heels won the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Court two was first off, as the team of Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston, ranked No. 31, defeated FSU's Federica Suess and Jessica Sucupira, 8-2. The second off was court three where the Seminoles answered with an 8-2 win over UNC's Zoe De Bruycker and Jocelyn Ffriend. But the Heels clinched the doubles point on one as the No. 13 pair of Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski, 8-3.

Carolina won first in singles at No. 5, as Suarez-Malaguti own 6-3, 6-2 over Suess to pull it to 2-0. It went to 3-0 as Grabinski defeated Amy Sargeant, 6-4, 6-3. FSU got on the board with a win at two as Katie Rybakova defeated the Tar Heels' 54th-ranked Tsang, 6-4, 6-4. But the Heels clinched their spot in the quarterfinals at six as Featherston knocked off Sucupira, 7-6(5), 6-2.

North Carolina Head Coach Brian Kalbas:
"We feel fortunate to advance and we're excited to get to the quarterfinals. It's always a challenge to play a team three times. It's anybody's tournament, and we feel that we're capable of going a long way."

Sanaz Marand:
"I feel the team is playing great. The sky is the limit."

FSU coach Jennifer Hyde:
"It was a heck of a match. This team all season has been fighters. One thing you can't coach is soul, and this team has it. I've been blessed to be able to work with them this year. This was a tight one and they've got no reason to hang their heads. It's been a really positive season at Florida State."
