LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 5 University of West Florida women’s tennis team (11-6, 4-0 GSC) split two neutral site matches today in Las Vegas, Nev. In UWF’s first match of the day, the Argos were upset by No. 7 Hawaii Pacific (11-3), 6-3. UWF rebounded in its second match, defeating No. 21 Cal State-Stanislaus (3-4), 7-2.

No. 7 Hawaii Pacific 6, No. 5 West Florida 3

No. 5 UWF dropped its first match of the day, 6-3, to No. 7 Hawaii Pacific. UWF competes in the South Region. Hawaii Pacific is in the West Region.

UWF was swept in doubles. At the No. 1 position, Celina Goetti and Zora Vlckova defeated Argonauts Caitlyn Baines and Taylor Brewster, 8-4. Baines and Brewster are the No. 5 doubles duo in the South Region. Sandra Wikstrom and Maria Fagerstrom defeated UWF’s doubles tandem of Yana Bokareva and Mariana Sonnervig, 8-5, at No. 2. At the No. 3 line, Ielyzaveta Rybakova and Aleksandra Stankovic defeated Jacqueline March and Luiza Sonnervig, 8-2.

UWF recorded victories at the Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles positions. At No. 2, Luiza Sonnervig defeated Goetti, 6-3, 6-1. March defeated Fagerstrom, 1-6, 7-6, 10-7, at No. 4. Argonaut Naomi Higa tallied a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Florie Paguay at No. 6. Vlckova, the No. 7 singles player in the nation, defeated UWF’s Brewster, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 position. Vlckova is also the No. 3 player in the West Region. At the No. 3 line, Rybakova defeated Baines, 6-0, 6-3. Stankovic defeated Mariana Sonnervig, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 5 spot.

No. 5 West Florida 7, No. 21 Cal State-Stanislaus 2

In UWF’s second match of the day, the Argos defeated No. 21 Cal State-Stanislaus, 7-2. UWF is in the South Region, and Cal State-Stanislaus is in the West Region.

UWF won all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, Baines and Brewster defeated Katie Eng and Verena Preikschas, 9-8. March and Luiza Sonnervig defeated Erin McGurty and Vanesa Reibstein, 8-5, at the No. 2 line. UWF’s Bokareva and Mariana Sonnervig tallied an 8-2 victory over McKenzy Harden and Lindsey West at No. 3.

UWF won four of the six singles matches. Luiza Sonnervig recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory against No. 45-ranked Reibstein at the No. 2 position. March dropped just one game as she defeated Harden, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4. At the No. 5 spot, Mariana Sonnervig defeated McGurty, 6-0, 6-4. Higa blanked West, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 line. Brewster dropped her second match against a ranked opponent of the day, falling, 6-3, 6-2, to No. 32-ranked Preikschas. Eng defeated Baines, 7-6, 6-1, at the No. 3 singles position.
