GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Washington and Lee won the ITA Indoor National Championship for the first time in program history, defeating Carnegie Mellon 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at the DePauw Indoor Tennis Center.

The Generals began the day with a 2-1 lead in doubles action, taking the victories at No. 2 and No.3. Washington and Lee was able to keep the advantage as they split singles play, 3-3, with the Tartans, beating out Carnegie Mellon at the No. 1, 5 and 6 singles positions.

Freshmen Sonja Meighan and Patricia Kirkland each recorded a perfect slate 2-0 against Carnegie Mellon.
