FLORENCE, Ala. – No. 8 West Florida won its fourth consecutive match on Saturday, as the Argos defeated North Alabama 8-1. With the win, UWF moves to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). UNA falls to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the GSC.

West Florida swept doubles. At the No. 1 position, Barbara Oliveira and Mariana Sonnervig teamed to defeat Natalia Barragan and Victoria Rees, 8-2. The UWF tandem of Hannah Durham and Naomi Higa tallied an 8-4 victory against Mackenzie Bishop and Madison Patey at No. 2. At the No. 3 line, Fernanda Amaral and Sheila Smiley recorded an 8-2 victory against Teresa Franco and Bruna Vieira.

UWF won five of the six singles matches. At the No. 1 position, Oliveira, who is currently ranked No. 14 nationally in singles, dropped just one game in her 6-0, 6-1 victory against Rees. Mariana Sonnervig defeated Bishop, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0, at No. 2. West Florida junior Luiza Sonnervig defeated Vieira, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 line. At the No. 5 spot, Amaral had a straight-set, 6-2, 6-1, victory against Franco. Durham recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Patey at No. 6. North Alabama’s lone point of the day came at the No. 4 position, where Barragan defeated Jacqueline March 6-3, 1-6, 1-0.
