MT. PLEASANT, S.C. -- College of Charleston got a 4-3 victory against Charleston Southern on Saturday.

The Cougars (10-4) won their sixth-consecutive match and remained undefeated in the all-time series with the Buccaneers (7-2). They won the doubles point with an 8-2 victory by Jenny Falcone and Kelly Kambourelis at No. 2. Caroline Newman and Christin Newman won 8-5 at No. 3.

In singles play, College of Charleston used a 1-2-3 punch at the top of its lineup to clinch the match behind straight-set victories from Christin Newman against CSU’s top player Olga Makhova 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1, Kambourelis versus Angelica Sidorenko, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 and Caroline Newman against Yvonne Hubler, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3.

“We got a quick start on the doubles and let a lead slip away at No. 1,” College of Charleston director of tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. “Charleston Southern did a good job of coming back and winning that match which gave them a little momentum going into the singles. We were fortunate we jumped out on them in four of the six first sets which gave us some momentum."
