AMHERST, Mass. -- Top-ranked Amherst extended its dual-match win streak to five on Sunday with a 7-2 win against NESCAC-rival and No. 8 Bowdoin.

Now 7-1 on the season, the Jeffs remained unbeaten in league play (3-0), while the Polar Bears suffered their first loss of 2012-13, dropping to 8-1 (2-1 NESCAC).

Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin headlined Amherst’s doubles teams with an 8-5 victory against Chantalle Lavertu and Emma Chow. Jen Newman and Zoe Pangalos defeated Kellen Alberstone and Emma Lewis 8-2, while Caroline Richman and Safi Aly upended Tiffany Cheng and Kate Winingham at third doubles 8-6.

Also leading the Jeffs in singles action, Brewer topped Alberstone 6-3, 6-1, at the top of the order, while Newman handled Lavertu in a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Cheng accounted for one of two Bowdoin triumphs, tripping up Richman 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 at third singles, while Winingham followed suit with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win against Sue Ghosh.

Pangalos turned away Lewis 6-3, 6-2 at fifth singles, while Aly dropped just two games to Susanna Howard at the bottom of the lineup.
