SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic punched its ticket to Arizona for the Round of 16 with a 6-0 victory against Georgia College on Monday morning at Bacon Park.

The Pirates (26-1) make their 19th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Round of 16 with the win against the Bobcats (16-12). Armstrong will face the winner of the Midwestern 2 regional final between Northwood (Mich.) and Grand Valley State -- to be played on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. -- in a Round of 16 matchup on May 8.

Armstrong got off to a quick start against the Bobcats, collecting three doubles wins to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The No. 2-ranked doubles duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova blanked Kayla Barksdale and Katie Krupp, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 6-ranked doubles duo of Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa downed May Johnson and Ivana Marevic, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. Clara Perez and Natasa Vukoviccompleted the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Michelle Lingner and Sarah Murray at No. 3 doubles.

Georgia College had to move a player out of the singles lineup due to injury, so Vukovic picked up the first singles match win at No. 6 singles due to forfeit. Filipovski and Kalodzitsa each had match point at the same time on courts one and five, respectively, and both finished off their opponents simultaneously to clinch the match. No. 6-ranked Filipovski downed Marevic, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles while No. 23-ranked Kalodzitsa beat Murray, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.

Armstrong heads to the Round of 16 with an eye on its eighth NCAA DII Women's Tennis National Championship. The Pirates won titles in 1995, 1996, 2005, 2008-10 and 2012 and have also reached the finals six other times, in 1997-99, 2002, 2004 and 2006.
