ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The top-ranked and two-time defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic blanked Flagler College 9-0 in Peach Belt Conference action Wednesday.
The Pirates (3-0, 3-0 PBC) stretched their current Peach Belt regular-season winning streak to 113 with the victory against the Saints (1-2, 0-1 PBC), who dropped their first league match of the season.
Armstrong gave up just two games in doubles play in taking a 3-0 lead heading into singles competition. The No. 2-ranked doubles duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova blanked Hanna Goettsching and Esther Santiago 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while No. 6-ranked Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa downed Anika Cohen and Thaisa Pereira 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Clara Perez and Carolina Prats-Millan finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-0 blanking of Krista Ingrilli and Kelly Stewart at No. 3 doubles.
The Pirates then won all six singles matches in consecutive sets to clinch the victory. No. 3-ranked Filipovski downed Barbora Sebkova, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 15-ranked Krtickova defeated Santiago 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 16-ranked Hacke beat Stewart 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and Prats-Millan upended Goettsching 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
No. 6-ranked Perez beat Cohen, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Dora Andrejszki finished off the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Sara Yousif at No. 6 singles.
