Barry finishes sweep of ranked foes

AZUSA, Calif. -- Barry beat No. 16 Azusa Pacific 8-1 on Thursday to complete a three-match sweep against ranked teams in Southern California.

At No. 1 singles, 31st-ranked Linda Fritschken beat No. 25 Emily Harris 6-0, 6-3. No. 19 Karina Goia breezed past Natalie Johnson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Aneve Pain nearly shut out Danae Ingwaldson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.

Ninth-ranked Elisabeth Abanda was a 6-4, 6-1 winner against Lindsey Yeom at No. 4 singles. Kimmy Twelker beat Stephanie Quan 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. Blanka Szavay, was a walkover winner against Bethany Duval 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Buccaneers dropped the No. 1 doubles match as APU's No. 20-ranked duo of Harris and Ingwaldson beat Twelker and Pain 8-6. Barry's 13th-ranked duo of Goia and Abanda beat Yeom and Kim Koetterheinrich 8-3 at No. 2. Fritschken, accustomed to playing at No. 1 with Emma Onila, was paired with Szavay at No. 3 for an 8-2 win against Johnson and Quan.

Barry has won 42 consecutive regular-season matches, dating back to 2011.

Barry wins 2022 NCAA DII Women's Tennis Championship over Central Oklahoma

Barry won its seventh national championship, and fifth consecutive, by defeating Central Oklahoma 4-1.
