No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer cruses by Mary Washington

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Pomona-Pitzer was a 12-10 third-set tiebreaker away from a clean sweep as it captured an 8-1 win against No. 21 Mary Washington on Friday at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Sagehens are now 3-2 on the season after a 1-2 weekend at the ITA Indoor Nationals last weekend (falling 6-3 to No. 7 Johns Hopkins and No. 8 Chicago). Mary Washington slips to 3-2 with the loss.

The freshman doubles team of Rosemary Pelch and Maddie Gordon produced wins at both doubles and singles, capturing an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Gordon earned an impressive 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6, while Pelch capped off the match at No. 5 with a 7-5, 6-4 win.

Senior Arthi Padmanabhan and sophomore Mae Coyiuto also produced a singles/doubles sweep. winning at No. 3 doubles 8-4. Padmanabhan then went on to cruise to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, while Coyiuto stayed perfect on the year at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Sophomore Lea Lynn Yen provided the clinching point at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win, after she and senior Sammy Chao won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Chao then battled Lindsay Raulston, ranked No. 19 in the nation in singles, into a third set at No. 1 before Raulston came away with the 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 win for the lone point of the match for the Eagles.
