CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Fourth-ranked Amherst earned five wins in singles play to defeat Pomona-Pitzer 6-3 on Monday.
The Jeffs (2-1) open the spring schedule with two consecutive wins and snapped the Sagehens' (6-3) four dual-match winning streak.
Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin picked up Amherst’s only win in doubles action as the duo cruised to a decisive 8-2 win from the No. 1 court.
In singles play, Brewer and Devlin picked up wins on the Nos. 1 and 2 courts, respectively. Brewer won easily with scores of 6-0, 6-2. After dropping the first set 7-6 (2), Devlin retaliated with wins of 6-3 and 6-1 to pull off the win.
The Jeffs also earned wins from the Nos. 4 through 6 courts. Sue Ghosh earned a win from the No. 4 position by scores of 6-3 and 7-5 and Zoe Pangalos cruised to wins of 6-1 and 6-4 in the No. 5 spot. Sarah Monteagudo picked up a 6-1 win in the first set before dropping a 6-4 set two. However, she pulled away in the final set for a 6-1 win on the No. 6 court.
