Amherst snaps Claremont-M-S' win streak

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Amherst defeated fifth-ranked Claremont-M-S on Friday 6-3.

The Jeffs snapped the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' three-match winning streak as they improved to 4-2. They took the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. The senior dynamic duo of Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin won from the top spot 9-7. Safi Aly and Sarah Monteagudo earned another close match from No. 3 doubles with a score of 8-6.

Amherst won two matches from the top of the order. Devlin claimed her match from the No. 2 court. After falling 6-3 in the first set, she retaliated nicely with wins of 6-0 and 6-3. Jen Newman took No. 3 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-3.

Sue Ghosh and Monteagudo won in No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively. After falling 6-2 in the first set, Ghosh took sets two (6-3) and three (6-2) to claim the win. Monteagudo cruised to victory with wins of 6-3 and 6-0.

Wesleyan (CT) wins the DIII women's tennis championship

The DIII women's tennis national championship ended on Wednesday, May 22. Wesleyan defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scipps.
