SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic clinched its 11th consecutive Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship with a 9-0 victory against South Carolina-Aiken on Sunday afternoon at Bacon Park.
The Pirates (21-1, 13-0 PBC) also completed its 11th consecutive unbeaten Peach Belt regular season with the win, stretching its current regular-season league winning streak to 123 matches, dating back to 2003. Armstrong also finished off an 11th consecutive unbeaten home season, extending its current home unbeaten streak to 135 matches, also dating back to 2003. USC Aiken wraps up its 2014 regular season at 13-8 overall and 6-7 in the PBC.
Armstrong clinches the top seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament as well, which will be held from April 17 to April 19 in Florence, S.C. The Pirates are the 10-time defending PBC tournament champions.
The Pirates swept all three doubles matches, taking a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova defeated Nadine Tusiama and Shauna Williams 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 8-ranked duo of Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa downed Victoria Jasko and Margot Simon 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Clara Perez and Carolina Prats-Millan finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win against Franziska Regel and Caitlyn Lawrence at No. 3 doubles.
Armstrong then notched wins in all six singles matches in straight sets. No. 3-ranked Filipovsk downed Tusiama 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while No. 11-ranked Krtickova beat Simon 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. No. 15-ranked Hacke defeated Williams 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Kalodzitsa knocked off Jasko 6-1, 4-6 (10-2) at No. 4 singles. No. 42-ranked Perez blanked Charlotte Greenwood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Dora Andrejszki beat Ella Rhodin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
