WATERLOO, Iowa -- Northern Iowa completed its first perfect home season since 2001 with a 6-1 win against the Bradley Braves on Sunday at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
UNI (12-10 overall, 2-3 MVC) is 11-0 in home duals this season. UNI last completed a perfect home dual season in 2001 when the Panthers posted a 6-0 home mark. Bradley fell to 4-14 overall and 0-4 in league action.
"Undefeated at home -- the ladies are certainly proud of defending their home court," UNI head coach Daniel Finn said. "They are very comfortable at home and really use the energy they get from the fans and themselves to push them. It's certainly turning into a special place to play."
Finn said the Panthers controlled the match from the beginning of doubles and throughout the singles play.
"The ladies did a great job of being focused and intense early on," Finn said. "We did a great job of setting the tone in doubles. When we got into singles we started strong but Bradley did a good job of hanging around and making some matches very competitive. The way we responded again [Sunday] was great. The kids are maturing and believing. That's a great thing to have happen at this point in the year."
Senior Krissy Lankelma picked up her school-record 84th career doubles victory, passing the old mark of 83 set by Phoebe Walker from 2009-2013.
