NYIT heads back to Round of 16

COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y. -- Junior Sara Burinato posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Charlotte Dawson at first singles to clinch the NCAA Division II East Region championship for NYIT on Sunday afternoon at Cold Spring Harbor Junior/Senior High School.

The Bears advance to the NCAA Round of 16 for the second consecutive season, which will be held May 14-17 in Alamonte Springs, Fla.

NYIT swept the doubles matches to claim a 3-0 lead heading in to singles play. Alexandra Borgenhoff and Burinato earned the first point with an 8-1 win at second doubles. Gabriela Siembab and Claudia Sanchez-Gonzales then picked up point the second point at third doubles with an 8-3 triumph, followed by Alessia Rossetti and Justyna Krol at first singles with an 8-5 win.

Rossetti then made it a 4-0 match with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Iman Williams-Mulesa at second singles before Burinato clinched. NYIT was leading at the remaining four singles spots.
