West Florida sweeps West Alabama; BYU-Hawaii beats Hawaii-Hilo
LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- Seventh-ranked West Florida defeated West Alabama 9-0 on the road Friday. West Florida (2-0, 1-0 Gulf South Conference) earned its first sweep of the season.
“The girls played very well [Friday],” head coach Derrick Racine said. “We started out very strong in doubles and kept the momentum going in singles.”
Laure-Eline Faure won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0 while No. 20 Monika Kochanova won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Nina Bubelova won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Kochanova and Faure won at No. 1 doubles 8-0 while Kat Dikosavljevic and Francesca Fanchin won 8-0 as well at No. 2 doubles. Bubelova and Fernanda Amaral won at No. 3 doubles 8-2.
No. 2 BYU-Hawaii 5, Hawaill-Hilo 0
HILO, Hawaii -- For the second consecutive day, No. 2 BYU-Hawaii held Hawaii-Hilo without a point in a shortened 5-0 match on Friday.
BYU-Hawaii took the all three doubles points to make it tough on the Vulcans for a comeback.
No. 1 positioned Marika Kobayashi and Kanela Adamson beat Morissa Kahakui and Rachel Sujiyama 8-5.
Sasha Ulbrichtova and Jade Griffin won in No. 2 doubles 8-1 and in No. 3 doubles Jeong-Min Jeon and Jin Jin (Leah) Han won 8-0.
The Seasiders picked up two singles points to seal the match with Marietta Tuionetoa winning in No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Ulbrichtova winning in the third position 6-0, 6-2.
