Florida reclaims top spot in poll
Following strong weekend, Gators are once again nation's No. 1
On the strength of NCAA automatic-qualifying marks by Will Claye (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Gray Horn (Waynesfield, Ohio) this past weekend at the Texas A&M Challenge, the Florida men’s track and field team has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in this week’s USTFCCCA Division I Men’s Indoor National Team Rankings, the New Orleans-based organization announced Tuesday.
The Gators, who were the preseason No. 1 team in the USTFCCCA poll, hold a narrow edge (141.96-141.29) in the nation’s top spot over No. 2-ranked LSU. Texas A&M checks in at No. 3, while Texas Tech (No. 4) and Oregon (No. 5) round out the USTFCCCA’s top-five.
Five Southeastern Conference teams are among this week’s top-25 team rankings: No. 1 Florida, No. 2 LSU, No. 11 Arkansas, No. 12 Auburn and No. 19 Georgia.
Claye holds a collegiate-leading mark in the men’s triple jump of 16.86m/55-3.25, while Horn turned in the second-best heptathlon score in the nation this season at 5,747. Claye, Horn and teammate Omar Craddock (Killeen, Texas) all have automatically qualified for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships.
Florida returns to action this weekend when it travels to Blacksburg, Va., to participate in the two-day Virginia Tech Elite Meet, beginning Friday.
