American University's Liam Purdy took home first place in Sunday's Patriot League indoor track and field championship 800-meter race in unusual fashion, after finishing the run without one of his shoes.

The junior's right sneaker came off during the championship race, but without stopping, Purdy persevered and took the lasting lead during the final stretch. His final time checked in at 1:53.25.
Purdy later tweeted out a medical update, showing his right foot wrapped up while he spectated from the stands.

Navy ultimately took the team crown for the day, but Purdy takes ownership of top moment.
