
HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Darien Thornton of fifth-ranked Grand Valley State shattered his own school record in the weight throw to lead a group of 13 men's provisional qualifying marks at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic. The women's team tallied 17 provisional qualifying marks and one automatic mark.
Thornton broke his own school weight throw record by nearly two feet, winning the event with a toss of 21.18 meters (69'6"), the third-best mark in Division II so far this year. His own previous record was 20.60 meters (67'7.25"). He led a group of three Lakers in the top four, all of which hit provisional marks. Blake Donson finished third (18.42m/60'5.25") and Lovell Peterson finished fourth (17.64m/57'10.5").
No. 1 Adams State at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic
ALBUQUERQUE , N.M. -- Adams State competed in day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
In the 200 meter dash, juniors, Derek Brown II and Jurgen Themen finished in the top 20. Themen finished with a time of 22.33 seconds while Brown ran a time of 22.37.
In the 3,000, the Grizzlies had runners finish second and third. Redshirt freshman, Ty Williams finished in second place with a time of 8:41.03. Senior, John Luterbach finished in third place with a time of 8:41.83.
In the field events, senior Justin Bethea jumped a height of 2.08 meters. Junior Carlton Lavong finished second in the long jump with a distance of 7.65 meters. Seniors Wesley Lavong and Joe Hochanadel both threw the weight throw more than 17 meters. Lavong threw a distance of 17.45 meters and Hochanadel threw a distance of 17.11 meters.
No. 6 Southwest Baptist at the Mule Relays
WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Southwest Baptist finished off the weekend at the Mule Relays on Saturday.
Blake Wyatt and Ryland Massey kicked things off for the Bearcats at the UCM Mule Relays in the weight throw. Wyatt took 34th place with a throw of 11.06 meters, with Massey took 38th place with a throw of 9.89 meters which ranks 4th all-time on the SBU performance list.
The two also competed in the shot put where Wyatt took 21st with a throw of 12.89 meters (which ranks 3rd all-time on the performance list), Massey took 39th with a throw of 10.81 meters, and Josh Johnson placed 31st with a throw of 12.10 meters.
