CCNY claims CUNY championship
Soto rolls in distance races, wins 10000, 5000 meters
NEW YORK -- CCNY captured its second consecutive conference crown, scoring 195 points at the City University of New York Athletic Conference championship on Sunday afternoon. The runner-up to the Beavers was Medgar Evers (175 points), while York placed third with 88 points, Hunter fourth with 55 points and the Lightning came in fifth with 42 points.
The Beavers had a number of tremendous performances including the effort of Sergio Soto who won the Men's 5000 meters with a time of 17:21.29. In addition, he won the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:56.05. He also claimed second place in the 1500 meters, crossing the line at 4:18.16.
Jemaal Alexander and Peter Dehayza were the first two finishers among the senior college's in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. In the 100, Alexander recorded a time of 11.04, with Dehazya finishing right behind him at 11.08.
In the 200, Alexander recorded a time of 22.44, with Dehayza crossing the line at 22.88. The 4x100-meter relay squad of Alexander, Dehayza, Albert Huggins, and Bakary Touray finished in first place with a time of 43.57.
