WALNUT, Calif. -- Senior co-captain Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) of the No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team won the invitational section of the 800-meter run on the final day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Competing against some of the top runners in the nation, Gall earned top honors in the elite 800-meter race with a regional-qualifying, season-best time of 2:02.69. Lacey Cramer of Brigham Young, the 2009 NCAA 800-meter indoor champion, was second with a time of 2:03.01.

In the discus competition, sophomore Emily Pendleton (Woodmore, Ohio/Lindsay) posted a regional-qualifying mark of 172-11 (52.72m) to earn sixth. Pendleton's top effort of the competition came on her fifth of six attempts on the day. Suzy Powell, a 2008 Olympian representing Asics, won the discus with a top throw of 195-9 (59.67m).   

On Friday in the shot put, junior/sophomore Danica Haight (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) earned an 11th-place finish with a top throw of 45-1 (13.74m). First place was taken by Julie Dufresne of Cal Poly, registering a best effort of 48-11 3/4 (14.93m).

The Wolverines will return to action next weekend (Thursday-Saturday, April 23-25) when they send athletes to a trio of different events -- the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., and the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.
