UW-Whitewater, Illinois College in tie for second as Ramapo holds onto first place
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- After the second day of competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, UW-Whitewater is in second place, tied with Illinois College.
Ramapo leads the team standings with 27 points. Whitewater and Illinois College have 16, followed by Washington (Mo.) and Monmouth with 14.5, and WPI's 14.
In limited action for UW-W Friday, Lexie Sondgeroth competed in the 100 meters, finishing with the ninth-fastest time in the preliminaries at 12.07. She advanced to the finals in the 100-meter dash on Saturday. Sondgeroth has been busy, finishing second in the long jump Thursday and running in the 200-meter prelims, while also qualifying for the final Saturday at 5:10.
Sasha Henry of Buffalo State had the fastest time in the three heats of prelims at 11.84.
Amanda Brom ran in the 800-meter preliminaries Friday, crossing the line in 2:12.87, the 16th fastest time in the qualifying heats. Brom, a sophomore, will not advance to the finals, where Angie Monagle of Johns Hopkins leads the finalists with a 2:08.73 prelim time.
In addition to Sondgeroth's 100 and 200 finals, UW-W's Shelby Mahr will compete in the shot put and Jacky Bigger will throw the javelin in finals Saturday.
