TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State won five events to take top honors at its own ASU Invite on Saturday at Sun Angel Stadium.
In the 200 meter, ASU went 2-3-4-5-6, led by senior Asiah Gooden’s season best 23.80. Junior Brianna Tate took third with a personal-best 24.21, while junior Sara McDonald followed with a season-best 24.22. Senior Alycia Herring placed fifth at 24.30 while sophomore Jasmine Gibbs followed in sixth at 24.41, a personal best. Freshman Micha Auzenne also set a personal best at 24.65.
Freshman LaTroya Franklin took second in the 400m dash at a personal-best 54.22, while Gooden followed in fifth at 55.58.
Junior Shelby Houlihan opened her outdoor season with a win in the 800m, finishing at 2:05.16, while freshman Kala Stone placed 6th at 2:10.37, and junior Payton Schutte set a personal best at 2:12.88.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, senior Sarah Geren set a personal best for the second week in a row as she took third at 59.37.
Senior Shaylah Simpson’s clearance of 4.00m (13-01.50) in the women’s pole vault was enough to win the event, while fellow senior Kelli Gibson and sophomore Andrea Kemmerrer both took third at 3.70m (12-1.50).
Herring and Gibbs went 2-3 in the long jump with clearances of 6.01m (19-8.75) and 5.74m (18-10.00), respectively.
In the shot put, Hartig took second with a toss of 15.34m (50-4.00), while redshirt freshman Ashley Weber placed fourth at a personal-best 14.89m (48-10.25). ASU also went 2-3 in the discus, with redshirt senior Anna Jelmini placing throwing 54.54m (178-11) and Hartig throwing 50.85m (166-10). Sophomore Ginger Jarchow set a personal best at 42.50m (139-05).
