Meehan wins for Johns Hopkins at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Sophomore Sophia Meehan got off to a strong start in her 2014 outdoor debut, finishing first in the 3,000-meter race at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday afternoon. After missing most of the 2013-14 indoor season due to injury, she topped the field with a time of 10:04.83 in wet and rainy conditions at the Kehoe Track Complex. Junior Ashley Murphy finished second in the event (10:06.56), while Gabi Drummond (10:15.41), Courtney Kelly (10:20.86), Veronica Boswell (10:29.85) and Jena Daya (10:31.47) took fourth through seventh (respectively).

Senior Shayna Rose was the top collegian in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 18:09.90, while junior teammate Grace Hancock took third with a time of 18:34.94. The Hopkins 4x100 relay team of Juliana Wittman, Kelley Hussey, Chloe Ryan and Brynn Parsons edged District of Columbia in the event, taking first overall with a time of 49.22.

Sophomore Hannah Oneda was the top Blue Jay in the 1,500-meter run, finishing fifth with a time of 4:46.49.

Senior Emily Swenson (12.67m) and freshman Gracie Hargrove (11.79m) went three-four in the shot put, while sophomore Paige Marsh took fourth in the triple jump (9.89m) to lead Hopkins in the field events.
