Division II Women's Track: Missouri Southern grabs early lead
Bradenton, Fla. -- Missouri Southern freshman pole vaulter Emily Presley won the national championship in the vault today, while Kaylee Morgan picked up another All-American honor in day one of the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Presley vaulted to a height of 13-03.50 and won the title on fewer misses for her second All-American honor of the year and first National Championship. Melanie Bower hit a height of 12-07.50 to finish tenth in the event, just outside of All-American contention.
Morgan, who came into the long jump ranked second nationally, earned All-American honors with a fifth-place finish and another school record as she jumped a distance of 20-07.50. It is her fourth All-American performance of her career. Brittani Reagan finished 10th in the event with a jump of 19-07, just outside of All-American contention.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow in day two with Reagan starting things off in the triple jump. Desirea Buerge will compete in the discus, as well.
