HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Sixth-ranked Nazareth split a pair of conference matches Sunday during day two of the United Volleyball Conference Crossover hosted by Stevens. The Golden Flyers lost a tough five-setter to seventh-ranked New York University in their opening match, then rebounded to sweep 15th-ranked New Paltz in three sets.

Scores against NYU were 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-13. New Paltz scores were 26-24, 25-14, 25-21, leaving Nazareth with an overall record of 8-4 and UVC mark of 2-2.

Nazareth lost to NYU despite getting 20 kills in 36 attempts from senior outside hitter Billy Gimello and 45 assists and five digs from junior setter EJ Wells-Spicer.

Junior Rob Kraft and senior Ellis Walsh each added 11 kills. Taylor Fauntleroy paced NYU with 17 kills and Connor Mortland had 54 assists.

Against New Paltz, Gimello and junior Alex Houghtalen each had 11 kills and Wells-Spicer tallied 36 assists. Freshman Nick McDonagh added 10 kills and four digs.

Nazareth is home Wednesday against Elmira at 7 p.m.
