Springfield sweeps a pair
Pride defeats Nazareth and Thiel at Juniata Invitational
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Springfield bested Nazareth in four sets in the Juniata Invitational on Saturday in what was a rematch of last year's Molten Division III National Championship match. The Pride took the Golden Flyers by the scores of 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 25-16. Springfield then defeated Thiel, 3-0, by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-20.
Springfield, which improved to 14-5 upon completion of the day, rebounded nicely after having its 10-match winning streak snapped on Friday evening by rival Juniata. In the three sets that Springfield won over Naz, it hit at least .400.
Mike Pelletier posted a match-best 15 kills, hitting .344, to go along with six digs. Alistair Matthews continued his strong play this weekend with 12 kills on 18 errorless attempts and Angel Perez added nine kills at a .500 clip. Keaton Piper racked up 41 assists as Springfield hit .388 for the match, Greg Falcone chipped in with a team-best three blocks, and Nick Ferry registered a match-high nine digs.
