Ohio State 3, Dayton 0



COLUMBUS, Ohio - The seventh-ranked Ohio State women's volleyball team swept Dayton, 3-0 (30-25, 32-20, 30-22), Friday night in an NCAA Championship first round-match in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes (28-3) advance to a second-round match in St. John Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday against Ohio University (29-2), which defeated Pittsburgh, 3-0, in the first match of the evening.

With the win, Ohio State advances to its eighth trip to the NCAA tournament's second-round since 1993 and to its 10th trip overall.

Senior outside hitter Stacey Gordon (Oshawa, Ontario) led Ohio State with 21 kills, 22.5 points and 16 digs and sparked the Buckeyes to a key win in a back-and-forth second game, which proved to be the turning point f the match. The Flyers led 17-14 in that middle game and went up again 30-29, but Ohio State responded with a 3-0 run to win, 32-30.

Dayton, which led the Atlantic-10 in opponents hitting percentage at .156, held the Buckeyes to a .196 hitting percentage in game one and to a .170 clip in game two, but Ohio State exploded for a .486 hitting percentage in game three and committed just one hitting error to seal the shutout.

Ohio State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one and later led 20-9 on its way to the 30-25 win. Following their crucial win in the second game, the Buckeyes trailed just once in game three, that being just 1-0. An 8-3 run but OSU up, 17-11, and the Flyers did not get any closer than five points the rest of the way.

Sophomore Marisa Main (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) posted 45 assists and added 12 digs for the Buckeyes. Senior Maya Mapp (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) collected 10 kills and 12 points to join Gordon as the only Buckeyes in the double-figure kill and points department.
