After a slow start, third-seed Carleton rallied to post a 3-1 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in Thursday's opening NCAA regional volleyball match at St. Thomas' Schoenecker Arena.

In the 3:30 match, the Knights (22-4) won 22-30, 30-23, 30-26, 30-25 and captured the institution's first NCAA volleyball playoff victory. Carleton went one-and-out in its only previous NCAA trip in 1985.

Danielle Hargreaves had 15 kills and 22 digs and Jamie Lykken had 32 digs and three aces for the Knights, who advance to Friday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal match vs. top-seed Washington (Mo.) (33-1). The Bears had a first-round bye.

Becca Shane had a match-high 22 kills for Concordia (21-5).

In game one, the Cobbers broke to leads of 6-1 and 12-6 and stayed in control to win. Carleton broke open a close game two as it built a 20-16 lead en route to a 30-23 victory. The Knights used a similar method and won game three 30-26 after leading 29-22. The Knights built a seven-point lead in the clinching match and won 30-25.
