WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Golden Lions advance to their fifth straight Regional Semifinals after defeating the #7 Adelphi University Panthers (3-1) Thursday, November 20th. With the win Dowling improves to 33-6 on the season, while the Panthers finish up 27-12.
Dowling dug themselves into an early 9-4 hole before hitting stride and getting back to within striking distance at 13-16 causing the Panthers to burn their first time out. With two thirds of the first game complete between the Golden Lions and Panthers the score was tied 21-21. Adelphi proceeded to take a minimal 23-21 lead late in the first game, although Dowling took the game scoring 5 out of the next six points. The Golden Lions were led by Junior Middle Hitter Kelly Scott with five kills and one solo block.
Powered by dominating offense of Golden lions, Dowling stampeded to a 17-9 lead during set No. 2. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Dowling never looked back as they won the game 25-20. Four Golden Lions had six kills or more, DC outhit Adelphi .228 to .041.
The Golden Lions again built an early lead in game three as the Panthers suffered from yet another slow start. DC seemed to have all the cards as they led 14-7, although the Panthers came back to tie the game at 22 a piece. The Adelphi Panthers scored next 6 points out of eight to take the win 27-25 over the stunned Golden Lions.
In game four the Golden Lions proved that their early lead in game two and three was no fluke as they built a 13-4 lead over the Panthers. The Adelphi answer the call with two serving aces from Amy Williams. Both teams went back and forth, but Dowling held always couple points advantage over the Panthers. In the end Dowling won the game 25-18.
Leading the Golden Lions offense against the Panthers were Monika Kasperek and Kelly Scott both slammed 14 kills while Patrycja Klekotka pitched in with 12 kills. Erin Przybylowicz proved to be a threat from the service line as she tallied three aces. Maja Potpara handed off 27 assists to help the Golden Lions with the win. The Defense was led by Klekotka with 13 digs closely followed by Jovonna Rodriguez with 11 digs while Jessica Gall and Erin Przybylowicz pitched in 10 digs.
The Golden Lions will take on the #6 University of Bridgeport on November 21st at 5:00 PM in the Semifinals of the NCAA Northeast Regional Volleyball Tournament.
