The Argonauts advanced to the semi-final round of the NCAA tournament this evening with the defeat of Eckerd College, 3-0. Jamie Nichols (Crawfordville, Fla./Wakulla HS) was an offensive powerhouse for West Florida, swinging at .615 on nine kills.

The Argos made a slow start in set one, but recovered throughout the match for the win. A slight struggle in the third set left West Florida neck-and-neck with the Tritons, but pulled off the win on the serves of sophomore Chelsea Wilhoite (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny HS).

West Florida opened their first match in Tampa with a strong offense, with four hitters over the .400 mark. As a team, the Argos were at .404 with Nichols leading the way. Madeline Gonzalez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Hillsborough CC) was three-for-five for an even .600, dishing out 37 assists to her teammates. Wilhoite swung for .467 eight kills, as Patricia Gandolfo (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Missouri State-West Plains CC) and Kara Gonzalez (St. Augustine, Fla./St. Augustine HS) added nine and eight respectively.

Kara Gonzalez led the defense with three blocks, while Wilhoite was in double figures with 10 digs. Senior Luciana Rapach (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Iowa Western CC) was on fire with 10 kills at .415, and 11 digs as the defensive dig leader.
