Leading 24-18, CSUSB made one last run, cutting the deficit down to 24-21, before Schmidt sent home a kill to tie the match up at 1-1.
UCSD continued its momentum in the third, taking a 9-6 lead after a Condon kill and Williamson ace. CSUSB came right back to tie the set at 10-10 and forced the Tritons to call timeout. The Tritons took a two point lead at 13-11 and 15-13 after back-to-back Freidenberg kills. From that point it was all Coyotes as CSUSB closed the set on a 12-5 run at 25-20.
With UCSD trailing 10-6 in the fourth set, the Coyotes scored 10 straight points to put away any chance for UCSD to force a fifth set. Leading 20-6, CSUSB cruised to the 25-11 win.
CSUSB and UCSD had split the previous 22 meetings between the schools.
