UW-Platteville beat host Illinois Wesleyan University in five sets, then took down seventh-ranked Hope 3-1 to win the IWU tournament.

The Pioneers finished 4-0 on the weekend, including Saturday's 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-10 win over the Titans and 16-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-13 over Hope.

Coach Deb Schulman's club, winners of 10 of its last 11 matches, improved to 13-6. IWU fell to 13-7, and Hope suffered just its second loss, dropping to 16-2.

Melissa Hillebrand was on fire for the Pioneers, recording a career-high 23 vs. IWU and 22 against Hope. Briana Kaiser pounded out 14 kills in the first match, while Lisa Bell had 14 and Amanda Fisch 12 against Hope.

Ali Sikic had 55 assists, one shy of her career best, in the opening match and 48 in the second. Abby Carey made 28 digs and four service aces against Hope, and Leslie White and Melanie Bailiff added 20 digs vs. Hope.

The Pioneers, who have defeated #13 UW-Eau Claire and #7 Hope already this season, play at #10 UW-Whitewater Tuesday and then face Ashford in the annual Homecoming Yell contest Wednesday at 7 p.m. The homecoming match has attracted close to or above 1,000 fans every year.
