New York, NY - In a battle of Hawks, SUNY New Paltz swept Roger Williams University 3-0 in an opening round NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship match at New York University's Coles Sports Center on Thursday.

The SUNY New Paltz Hawks (33-5) will now face Salisbury University (31-4) on Friday, while the Roger Williams Hawks conclude their season with a 21-11 record.

SUNY New Paltz fell behind early in the first set, 4-2, but scored the next seven points and never trailed again en route to a 25-19 victory. They used the same score to capture the second set, again trailing by two early. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) champions expanded their lead to as many as eight points on two occasions before settling for the two-point, second-set victory.

The third and final set was a rough one for Roger Williams, as those Hawks fell behind 5-0 and never recovered. The Commonwealth Coast Conference champions managed to pull within three, but it was as close as they could get. SUNY New Paltz went on to dominate the set, leading by as many as 16, 20-4, before cruising to the 25-11 clinching victory.

Brittany Coyle had a match-high 11 kills for SUNY New Paltz, while Stephanie Bova had 27 set assists and Loren Crabbe contributed 16 digs. Priska Wilson and Melinda DiGiovanna each added 10 digs.

Roger Williams was led by Rebekah Dion's 10 kills. Emily Lebowitz led with 19 set assists, while Jill Hurd totaled a match-high 22 digs.
