No. 2 seeded Lewis never trailed in their 25-20, 25-17, 25-21 sweep of No. 7 Ferris State on Thursday afternoon in the 2009 NCAA Midwest Regional on Thursday afternoon on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.

In the win senior middle hitter senior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) recorded three block assists to tie for the all-time career total blocks record with 394. She needs one more to pass Katie Gilman (2000-03), who deBuhr is currently tied with.

deBuhr also totaled eight kills. Senior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) hit .500 with 10 kills and no errors. She also recorded eight digs. Junior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) hit .304 with nine kills. Senior Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) had 11 digs.

The Flyers, No. 11 in the nation, hit .326 for the match, compared to Ferris State's .204

Lewis scored the first seven points of the contest, and eventually grabbed an 11-1 lead. Nine of the 11 points came the way of a kill or ace. The Bulldogs eventually cut the lead to 23-20, but Seliga and Sagat used a pair of kills to end the set.

Lewis led the second set 10-5, before four straight Ferris State points made it a 10-9 game. The Bulldogs advanced within a point on two more occasions, but never tied the score. A 7-1 Lewis run in the middle of the set gave the Flyers all the cushion they needed to take the set.

A 4-0 start to the third set gave Lewis the edge and the Flyers held on from there.

"The big key was we were aggressive," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "I think sometimes you can turn a tough loss into a positive, and I think we did that today. Now we need to continue it."

Ferris State ends their season at 19-12. Lewis improves to 31-4. The Flyers will play the No. 3 seed, Saginaw Valley State, on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET in the semifinals of the Midwest Regional.
