EMORY, GA The New York University women's volleyball team dropped its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener, falling to host Emory University in three sets at the UAA Round Robin #1 in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets (19-3), currently ranked #23 in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, hung with the third-ranked Eagles (14-2) but in the end could not pull out a set falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 26-24).

Leading the offense for NYU was Beth Fionda, who notched a team-high 10 kills while hitting a team-best .333.

On defense, Alexis Schwartz tallied 16 digs along with a service ace while Erin McLaughlin added 11 digs as well as two service aces and six kills.

For the Eagles, Amelia McCall recorded 14 kills while Molly Landers added 14 digs.

The Violets return to action tomorrow for the final two matches of the first round robin. The team will take on Case Western University at 10:00 am followed by Carnegie Mellon University at noon.
